Have you ever dreamed of turning your yard into a self-sustaining paradise of fresh food, vibrant greenery, and local wildlife? Join us for a hands-on class with Hailey Lampe where you’ll learn how to design and cultivate your very own Food Forest right at home! This workshop is ideal for anyone interested in creating a low-maintenance, productive garden using native plants, especially those native to the Pacific Northwest.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Introduction to Food Forests: Discover what a food forest is and how it mimics a natural ecosystem to grow a variety of food-producing plants. We’ll cover the basics of permaculture principles, including layering plants for maximum efficiency and biodiversity.
  • Choosing PNW Native Plants for Your Space: Explore a wide range of native plants that thrive in the Pacific Northwest and provide food. From berries to edible herbs, nuts, and fruits, you’ll learn which plants are best suited for your region’s climate and soil. We’ll discuss the importance of selecting plants that are both beautiful and beneficial to the local ecosystem.
  • Assessing Your Space: Not sure how much space you need for a food forest? We’ll guide you through the process of assessing your available space, including sun exposure, soil quality, and moisture levels. Whether you have a small backyard or a larger property, there’s a food forest design that can work for you!
  • How Much Food Do You Need? We’ll talk about the different factors to consider when deciding how much food you want to grow, and how to plan for your harvest needs without overwhelming your space. Whether you want to grow enough food for yourself, your family, or your community, we’ll help you determine the right balance.
  • Creating Your Design: In this interactive segment, you’ll have the opportunity to sketch out a design for your food forest, incorporating everything from plant placement to layout strategies. We’ll discuss companion planting, plant succession, and how to create a year-round harvest cycle.
  • Practical Tips & Resources: Learn about water conservation techniques, soil health, and maintenance tips that will ensure the success of your food forest for years to come. You’ll leave with a list of helpful resources, including local nurseries and planting guides.

Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just getting started, this class is designed to give you the tools and inspiration to grow a thriving, sustainable food forest right in your own backyard. Come join us for a day of learning, creativity, and connection to the land. Your future self will thank you for it!
